my little lamb: Quit «
berating me for not voting. You don’t even know who I would have voted for! If I liked either of the candidates, I would have voted for them. I don’t, and I didn’t. The lesser of two evils does not exist, and I’m not going to compromise my principles because I think one…
Not voting is just really edgy and hip.
This blows my mind, people complain about their government but then don’t go out and do the one thing they can to change it. Even if voting doesn’t work in your favor, at least you can say that you tried. There are so many people around the world who don’t have a single say in their government, who are constantly oppressed and WISH they had the opportunity to vote, but lazy, ignorant Americans continue to be…lazy and ignorant.
And don’t vote for the issues if you don’t know anything about them, but you can still take the effort to vote for the officials on the ballot.
totally agreed, nina. also, dave: there is such a thing as a write-in. so write in yourself if you want, but at least you exercised your right.
I have the right to choose. I made a choice. Let’s go back to posting pictures of cats.
Dear AdventuresInRetail,
If there’s a lesson to be learned here it’s that you should never post anything even vaguely related to politics on any social networking outlets, lest ye incur the wrath of the politically involved college student. Do your own thing and don’t make any posts about it.
Sincerely,
LaVanguardia
IMO you shouldn’t post anything that you don’t want people to respond to, unless you specifically say so.
That said, I 100% stand by the original poster’s choice to not vote. If someone doesn’t feel informed or doesn’t feel comfortable with the voting process, there’s no reason they should have to vote. It’s a choice and it should be respected.
I see from the response that the OP got that there are people who will attack others for not voting, but having not been one of those people I can’t help but get immediately annoyed with anyone who acts like I’m naive because I care or like voting is a waste of my time. It’s fine if you want to post sarcastic statuses and comments ridiculing people who are upset about the results of the election (as did approx. half of my Facebook friends), but others may think you’re being a douchebag! And they may be interested in engaging in a conversation with you about it!
I know this is a departure from the original posts, but I felt that it was tangentially related.
Yes, yes, and yes.
